नेपाल पन्छीविद संघले मिति २०८२-०८-०१ का दिन स्वयम्भू, काठमाडौँस्थित आफ्नो कार्यालयमा एक छलफल कार्यक्रम आयोजना गर्यो। यस छलफल कार्यक्रममा शुक्लाफाँटा राष्ट्रिय निकुञ्ज, कालिकिच उपभोक्ता समितिका ९ जना कार्यकारी सदस्यहरूले सहभागिता जनाएका थिए। नेपाल पन्छीविद संघले छलफलमा निम्न विषयहरूमा जानकारी प्रस्तुत गरेको थियो:
- खरमजुर (Bengal Florican) माथि गरिएको अध्ययन अनुसन्धान।
- बेलडाँडी, कन्चनपुरमा गरिएका संरक्षण गतिविधिहरू।
कार्यक्रमको क्रममा सहभागीहरूले खेतबारीमा आउने अति संकटापन्न खरमजुरको दीर्घकालीन संरक्षण कसरी गर्न सकिन्छ भन्ने विषयमा विचारविमर्श गरेका थिए।
The Nepalese Ornithological Union (NOU) and the Kalikich Buffer Zone User Committee (BZUC) of Shuklaphanta National Park organised an interactive meeting at the NOU's office in Swayambhu, Kathmandu, on November 17, 2025. The program, attended by the executive committee members of the BZUC, addressed the long-term conservation of the Critically Endangered Bengal Florican. The primary focus was on protecting the birds during their non-breeding season, a critical time when they move out of the park and into local agricultural fields, making them highly vulnerable to human-induced threats.
The discussion centered on an ongoing two-year research project, backed by Ocean Park Zoo, Hong Kong. The study, which uses MODIS satellite data to map the florican's preferred habitat, confirmed that the species strongly favors open floodplain and grassland habitats. The project aims to implement community-based land-sharing initiatives and promote sustainable farming practices with local farmers to manage the grassland-farmland matrix, thereby reducing conflict and ensuring the species' survival outside the protected area. The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including the entire executive committee of the Kalikich BZUC and NOU leadership.
The participants included Bhim Bahadur Thapa (Chair-Kalikich BZUC), Bhagirathi Shahi (Vice-Chair), Madan Raj Bhatta (Treasurer), Manoj Kumar Bohara (Member), Ishori Devi Bhatta (member), Ratna Sunar(Member), Taula Rana (Member), Naresh Singh Dhami (Chandan Basti User Group member), Kaviraj Bohara and Bivek Chaudhary (Former Game-Scouts of Shuklaphanta National Park) Babita Paudyal (NOU-Admin and Finance Associate), and Laxman Prasad Poudyal (NOU-Executive Director).
